PETERSEN MEDIA- After a week off following two tough nights that saw him flirt with podium finishes, Shane Hopkins had some things go his way on Saturday night as he advanced from his 17th starting position to finish fifth.

“It is nice to have some things go in our favor and really have a good night,” Shane Hopkins said. “Our night got off to a tough start but Vern and everyone worked hard and we ended up with a pretty good night.”

Timing the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat backed No. 97 entry in 19th quickest in time trials, Hopkins would have his work cut out for him the rest of the night.

Lining up in the third row for his heat race, Hopkins would string together some great laps as he worked his way to a third place finish and punched his ticket directly into the 25-lap feature event though he would take the green from deep in the field.

Taking the green flag from the 17th starting position, Hopkins would bounce around the 18th spot until a lap eight tangle that he was able to avoid gave him a few positions. When the action resumed, Hopkins was able to swoop into the Top-10 as he would come to life on the slick surface.

Getting into seventh on the 11th lap, Hopkins would use a lap 14 restart to over take the seventh spot before racing into fifth on the 15th lap. Battling hard on the tigh ¼ mile, Hopkins would hold on to earn his second Top-Five finish of the season as he accepted the checkered flag in fifth.

“With the bad breaks we have had late, I kind of held my breath in the closing laps hoping something wouldn’t happen,” Hopkins said. “Things went well, and we were able to get this car back in the Top-Five. I have to thank everyone who has lent a hand or had some positive words of encouragement for myself the last few weeks. It really means a lot. I also want to send my best the Placerville officially who was struck in the arm by a tire on Saturday. I hope he recovers soon.”

Hopkins and Moxie Motorsports would like to thank Moxie Mechanical, Morrison Concrete, TNT Powdercoat, LRB Ent., ADCO Driveline, C&H Veteran Enterprises, Soares Motorsports, Joe Hunt Magnetos, Capital Ace Hardware, Johnson Motorsports, American River Overhead, Americote Painting, Gary Morgan Graphics, and ART Enterprises for their support in 2018.
