PETERSEN MEDIA- One week removed from a hard charge to finish fifth, Shane Hopkins would overcome an opening lap wreck to salvage his fourth Top-10 of the season as he limped home with a 10th place finish on Saturday night.
“It was just kind of a night where nothing seemed to go our way,” Hopkins said. “It started off rough, then we got involved in the opening lap wreck and ran the feature with intermittent brakes. I still have to thank everyone for all of their help.”
Having some engine issues in time trials, Hopkins would end up 17th quickest aboard the Moxie Mechanical/Morrison Concrete/TNT Powdercoat entry and would then find himself in the back row of his heat race.
Finishing fifth in his heat, Hopkins would find himself in the seventh row to start the 25-lap ‘A’ main event. When the green flag waived a pile up in turn four would collect several cars and with nowhere to go the Cameron Park, CA driver would endure damage and be forced to the work area.
Changing out a damaged front end, Hopkins would make his way back down the turn three entry ramp and would rejoin the field form the 12th starting position with still the entire race to be ran.
Getting underway, Hopkins would find himself dealing with brake issues though he was able to make it work and move into 10th. With his car a bit of a handful with troubles brakes, Hopkins would hang on and end his night with a 10th place finish and he now looks forward to the Mark Forni Classic this weekend.
“It was a rough night from start to finish, but we continued to work hard and try and get better,” Hopkins added. “The end result wasn’t what we wanted but considering how the feature started we will definitely take it and move forward to this weekend.”
