PETERSEN MEDIA: Two more nights of USAC West Coast 360 action for Steve Hix saw the Ventura, CA driver record a sixth place finish during the opening night of the Peter Murphy Classic on Friday night in Tulare, CA before an 11th place finish during Saturday’s finale.

“It was not too bad of a weekend for our race team,” Steve Hix said. “Friday night we had a pretty solid night, and on Saturday I lost my crew chief for the night and we struggled a little.”

Hix would kick his weekend off by timing the No Limit Powder Coating/Delano Roofing/Kitty Land Resort entry in ninth quickest in qualifying time trials. Heading out for heat race action, Hix would pick up a fifth place finish.

With a bunch of cars in action on this night, the Thunderbowl Raceway surface would take a beating and rubber already be down on the track when Hix and the USAC West Coast 360 Series drivers made their way to the speedway for their feature event.

Taking the green flag from the ninth starting position, Hix would be one of the few who was able to make up ground with rubber down on the racing surface. Hitting his marks for all 30-laps, Hix would make up some ground as he closed his Friday night out with a sixth place finish.

Lining Saturday heats up based on Friday night’s finish, Hix would find himself on the front row of the third heat race. On another tricky surface offered up on this night, Hix would slip back to finish fourth and would find himself in the 12th starting position for the 30-lap finale.

Admittedly having his share of struggles on this night with his crew chief unable to attend, Hix would his best to maintain on the slicked off racing surface. Chasing after a spot in the Top-10 all race long, Hix would close his weekend out with an 11th place finish as he now finds himself fourth in USAC West Coast 360 points.

“Saturday night was definitely tough but we survived, and made the best of it,” Hix added. “Big thanks to everyone who continues to help and support our race team.”

Steve Hix would like to thank No Limit Powder Coating, Delano Roofing, Kitty Land Resort, FK Rod Ends, Quality Inn, and Shady Rays for their continued support.

ON TAP: Hix will be idle this weekend before returning to Thunderbowl Raceway on June 2nd.
