(PETERSEN MEDIA- Watsonville, CA)- Fans were treated to quite the show on Friday night at Ocean Speedway as Justin Sanders and Brad Furr went toe to toe for the feature event victory with Brad Furr getting the better end of the battle in lap traffic as he scored his fourth Ocean Sprints pres. by Taco Bravo win of the season.
Billy Aton and Justin Sanders would bring the field to green for the Johnny Key Classic Tune Up feature event, and it would be Aton leading the field through turns one and two untiil Sanders got by and three and four and began opening his lead up as he chased after his fifth series win of the season.
Getting into traffic by the fourth lap, Sanders looked strong out front as Aton, Brad Furr and Ryan Bernal threw it down for the second spot behind him as the trio navigated through slower traffic as well.
The first half of the race would go non-stop until a three car colsion involving Vaugh Schoot, Kurt Nelson, and Gary Nelson, Jr brought things to a stand still.
When the action rsumed, Sanders continued to lead the way over Aton, Furr, Bernal, and young masher, Colby Johnson who rounded out the Top-Five. An incident on the restart would see Glenn Bryan and Richard Fajardo get together and end both their nights as the cautin would quickly waive again.
Following the race’s final caution on the 18th lap, the action would be top notch during the final 12 laps as all eyes would be on the battle up front between the two standouts, Sanders and Furr.
While Sanders looked to have the race well in control as he would open up nearly a straight away lead, traffic would slow him down as Furr and Bernal were able to get by Aton to take over second and third.
As Furr no had no lead lap cars between himself and Sanders, he would reel in the leader as Kalib Henry subsquently got by Koen Shaw to overtake the fifth position.
With just five laps to go in the race, Sanders and feel immense pressure from Furr and the battle was on. In turn three and four on lthe 25th lap, Furr would bring the crowd to their feet as he moved by Sanders to offically lead the 26th lap as Sanders would dive low in one and two looking to counter, but would be unsucessful.
Sticking with Furr, Sanders would be un able to find a way back by as Furr would go on to win for the second week in a row and bring his season total to four as Sanders would settle for second followed by Bernal, Aton, and Kalib Henry rounding out the Top-Five.
