PETERSEN MEDIA- After spending some time in the Midwest in his family car, Dominic Scelzi returned to California for a weekend of racing in Tulare, CA for the Peter Murphy Classic, and while weather shortened the festivities, Scelzi was able to pocket a second place finish on Friday night.
“It was a bit of a bummer that the rubber came in so fast in the feature,” Dominic Scelzi said. “My Roth Motorsports team gave me a great car, but we just couldn’t get by Rico Abreu with the conditions which was a bummer because I really feel like it was our best night yet together as a team.”
Scelzi would time the Roth Enterprises/HR Livestock Transportation/Jason, Tara, and Cole Roth Cattle Co./Roth Investments No. 83 machine in third quickest in his qualifying group and line up on the front row of his heat race.
Getting the jump, Scelzi would cruise to the important heat race win, as the win put him in the all-important High Sierra Industries Dash. Running third in the Dash, Scelzi felt very confident in his machine as he made his way to the Thunderbowl for the 30-lap feature event.
After a couple of red flags were needed trying to get the race underway, Scelzi would jump into second when the green was finally displayed as he chased after Rico Abreu.
Getting to Abreu before the rubber really came down, Scelzi was in position to make a bid for the lead but the yellow flag was needed on the fifth lap and it negated Scelzi’s progress.
With the rubber pretty dominant as the race came back to life, Scelzi would settle into second and make sure to hit his marks as he would need traffic or a mistake to really have a shot at the top spot.
While traffic did come into play, the leaders were able to navigate through it well, and Scelzi would hang on to finish second and lock himself into the Peter Murphy Classic finale that was postponed from Saturday night to June 8th.
“I really feel like we had a car that was good enough to win, we just had to take what was given to us,” Dominic Scelzi said. “I am thrilled to be locked into the finale, and am already counting down the days. Big thanks to Dennis and Teresa Roth, and all of my guys for their hard work on Friday.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, HR Livestock Transportation, Jason, Tara, And Cole Roth Cattle Co., Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, and Smith Titanium for their support in 2019.
