PETERSEN MEDIA- Daryn Pittman and Roth Motorsports continued their strong start to the 2019 season last week in Las Vegas, NV as Pittman finished seventh on Wednesday night, before finishing second in absolute thriller on Thursday night.
“Thursday night is going to sting for a little bit,” Daryn Pittman said. “I will play that one back in my head for a while, but we just got beat by Donny Schatz and ended up finishing second.”
Opening the two-night stay in Sin City on Wednesday night, Pittman would time the Roth Enterprises/Jason, Tara, & Cole Roth Cattle Co./HR Livestock Transportation entry in seventh fastest in his qualifying group before winning his heat and moving into the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash.
Advancing from seventh to finish sixth in the Dash, Pittman would roll off the starting grid from the third row as he looked for more World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series lore.
In a very action packed feature event, Pittman would battle in the lead pack from much of the night as he chased after the likes of Tim Shaffer, Gio Scelzi, and Donny Schatz for much of the 30-lap affair.
A very racy surface saw two and three-wide action all over the place with Pittman eventually taking the checkered flag with a seventh place finish.
Back in action on Thursday night still in search of his first career win in Sin City, Pittman would flex his muscle early on this night as he would time in fastest in his qualifying group.
Winning his heat race, the Owasso, OK driver would again find his Roth Motorsports entry in the Dash where his fourth place finish put him in the second row for start the final 30-lap feature event of the week.
Getting off to a great start, Pittman would quickly jump into the second position as he chased after Donny Schatz. Stalking Schatz, the former series champion would find some rubber down on the surface before the leader as he shot passed and took command of the race on the 14th lap.
Looking extremely strong out front, Pittman would soon open up a sizeable lead as he worked through lapped traffic beautifully.
Despite a few cautions, and a fuel stop, Pittman continued to lead the way as he looked to be well in control out front.
A finale restart with five-to-go seemingly would give DP the clear track he desired for the final sprint to the finish, but to his surprise he would catch the rear of the field on the last lap.
Continuing to his marks, Pittman would go low in three and four as he cut through traffic, but second running Schatz would go high and beat Pittman to the flag in a drag race and Pitman would settle for second by a .071 margin.
“Everyone’s pace was off at the end of the race with tire-wear being an issue, and in retrospect I should have slowed my pace with five to go as well,” Pittman added. “I have to thank Dennis and Teresa Roth for providing me with a great opportunity and these Roth Motorsports guys for working so hard, and giving me a great car every night.”
The Roth Motorsports team would like to thank Roth Enterprises, Jason, Tara, Cole Roth Cattle Co., HR Livestock Transportation, Roth Investments, FK Rod Ends, Weld Wheels, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kent Performance, Kaeding Performance, Smith Titanium, Wicked Cushion, and Team Simpson for their support in 2019.
