PETERSEN MEDIA: Despite getting collected in a big wreck coming to the green flag, Justyn Cox would restart from the tail end of the field with a repaired car and rally to finish sixth on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway.

“I’m not really sure how we made it back out with all that was damaged, but I really have to thank my guys and everyone that pitched in and helped us,” Justyn Cox said. “It went non stop after that incident so I think we had a pretty good car with how we were able to come from the tail and finish sixth.”

Timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in ninth quickest in qualifying time trials, the Clarksburg, CA driver was able to win his heat race from his front row starting position and earn a berth in the redraw.

Not having the greatest luck in the draw, Cox would find himself with the vaunted eighth eight pill and would roll off from the fourth row in the 25-lap finale. When the field came to take the green flag, contact up front would cause a pile up and Cox would get collected in the mayhem.

Tearing up his nose wing, top wing, radius rods, and drag link, Cox would head up the hill to the work area where his crew and others would quickly go to work making repairs.

Able to make the call and rejoin the field, Cox would line up in the back of the back for the second attempt at a start. When the race came to life, Cox was very sporty on a the very racy surface that was presented to the teams following pre race track prep.

Jumping into the Top-10 early, Cox would find himself up in eighth with just six laps remaining in what turned out to be a non stop 25 laps following the initial stoppage.

Getting into seventh with just four laps left in the race, Cox would get up to sixth on the 22nd lap where he would go on to take the checkered flag.

“I didn’t know if we even had a chance to restart the race, and to do that and come back to sixth just says a lot about our race team,” Cox said. “It was unfortunate but we salvaged it and are now looking forward to the Mark Forni Classic on Saturday night.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
