PETERSEN MEDIA: Fresh off of a successful trip to Cottage Grove, OR one week ago, Justyn Cox and his Cox Family Racing team returned to Placerville Speedway on Saturday night where Cox would come away with a fifth place finish.

“It’s tough to finish fifth with the night we had,” Justyn Cox said. “We were in second much of the race, and a late restart led to what I feel was a questionable call that played a big role in our finish. In the big picture it was a decent night but we need to be even better.”

24 cars checked into Placerville Speedway on Saturday night and Cox kicked his night off by timing the Berco Redwood/Berry Lumber/Trex backed No. 31c machine in third quickest overall.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Clarksburg, CA wheelman had his elbows up as he made some swift moves to get into second. Chasing down Chris Masters late in the race, Cox would get the position and pick up the important heat race win.

Moving himself into the nightly redraw, Cox would find himself with the six pill and in the third row for the 25-lap ‘A’ main event. On a slick surface that was offered drivers something a little different on this night, Cox would quickly jump up into third until the race’s first caution flew on the fourth circuit.

The ensuing double file restart saw Cox make quick work of Benson as he began his pursuit of race leader, Jimmy Trulli. In open track Cox would be unable to reel the leader in but a handful of restarts saw Cox make a few bids for the top spot.

A late restart on the 17th lap would play a pivotal role in Cox’s night. Officials deemed Cox at fault for starting too early and he would be penalized.

Giving up the second position, Cox would now find himself back in fifth when the racing action resumed. Battling with Justyn Cox and Andy Forsberg in the closing laps, Cox would end his night with his third top five finish of the season.

“It is unfortunate the way it played out but it is what it is,” Cox said. “We will work on being even better this week and look to get back up to the top of the podium this weekend.”

The Cox Racing team would like to thank Berco Redwood, Berry Lumber, Trex, PM Truck Repair, Justice Brothers, K&N, LRB, Konnected, A.R.T., Sacramento Theatrical Lighting, College Cyclery, Arai, Racing Optics, All American Powder Coating, Coos Bay Speedway, Swimming Pool Perfections, Tim’s Hot Rod Shop, Shell Shock, Moyle Race Engines, and Manzer Motorsports for their support in 2018!
