PETERSEN MEDIA: Continuing to get seat time and make laps in a winged sprint car in Northern California, Blake Carrick turned in one of his best weekend’s yet as he finished ninth on Friday night in Watsonville, CA and 11th on Saturday in Placerville, CA.
“It was a great weekend, and I am getting more comfortable and more confident in the sprint car,” Blake Carrick said. “We ran pretty well both nights, and if it wasn’t for a late mistake in the feature on Saturday we may have had a pair of Top-10’s.”
Blake Carrick opened a two-race weekend up on Friday night at scenic Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA where he timed the CVC/Cemex/Interstate Oil backed No. 38 entry in 11th fastest in time trials.
Picking up a fourth place finish in his heat race, Carrick moved into the 30-lap feature event where he would take the green flag from the 12th starting position. On racy Ocean Speedway, Carrick would do a great job of missing an early wreck as he raced his way forward and looked for a spot in the Top-10.
On a night were a handful of the regions top drivers dropped in for a tune up night leading into this weekend’s Howard Kaeding Classic, the youngster from Lincoln, CA did a great job as he recorded a career best ninth place finish.
Saturday night saw the team make the trip to Placerville Speedway where Carrick has been running regularly the last few weeks. Timing the Carrick Motorsports machine in 13th quickest in qualifying time trials, Carrick would race his way to a fourth place finish in his heat race.
Gridding the field from the 12th starting position, Carrick would run well on a freshly manicured surface that underwent a re-work prior to the green flag dropping. Getting inside the Top-10, Carrick would find himself up in eighth late in the feature event as he took a liking to the thick Placerville Speedway curb that had built up around the speedway.
Tripping over the cushion in the final laps, Carrick would get up out of the groove a little and it would cost him a couple of spots as he slipped back to finish 11th when the checkered flag was displayed to the field.
“This is all about getting laps and adapting to different surfaces,” Carrick reiterated. “My team does a really good job of getting me comfortable and I get confidence each night out.”
