PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to action after a successful debut two weekends ago, Colby Copeland and the Antaya Motorsports team would overcome Friday night adversity to finish in the fourth spot with the King of the West series in Tulare, CA on Saturday night.

“I can’t say enough about this team,” Colby Copeland said. “We got caught up in a mess late in Friday’s feature and worked all night to get a car put together for Saturday. I really have to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to make it all possible.”

Timing the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fire Protection Management, Inc./TW Performance backed No. 20 entry in ninth fastest on Friday night at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA, Copeland would pick up a second place finish in heat race action.

Gridding the field from the eleventh starting position, Copeland showed he had a very strong entry, as he was able to work his way towards the Top-Five in a non-stop 22-lap green flag run.

In the closing laps, the flow of the race would dramatically slow with stoppages and cautions, but Copeland was able to keep moving forward as he found himself in the fifth spot.

A lap 28 restart would be detrimental for the Antaya Motorsports team as contact with cars wrecking in front of them would send Copeland upside down violently in turns one and two. Able to climb from the wreckage, Copeland would be okay but the car would not be as lucky.

Heading to the shop, the team worked through the night to get a car put together for Saturday night’s event at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, CA.

Showing no worse for wear, the Roseville, CA driver would come out strong as he would timed in fifth fastest in time trials, before racing to a fourth place finish during his heat race.

Punching his ticket into the Dash, Copeland would finish in the third spot, which would place the Good Guys Rod and Custom Association/Fire Protection Management, Inc./TW Performance entry in the second row of the feature event.

Finding himself in the fifth spot, Copeland would be forced to take his machine to the work area as he had a left rear tire go down. Making repairs and tagging the back of the pack, Copeland would put on a show as he was able to work his way back through the field and pocket a fourth place finish at the line.

“I am really thankful to be a part of this team,” Copeland said. “To work through the night, and come out and run fourth is pretty cool. I am looking forward to next weekend.”

Antaya Motorsports would like to thank Good Guys Rod and Custom Association, Fire Protection Management, Inc., TW Performance, Kaeding Performance, Cardinal Paint and Powder, Tool World, and Shiro’s Collision Center for their support in 2016.

ON TAP: Antaya Motorsports is excited to be back in action on Saturday night with the King of the West series at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, CA, as well as taking part in the 360ci event on Friday night that will open up Cotton Classic weekend.
