PETERSEN MEDIA: Though he led a ton of laps during two nights of racing over the weekend and came up a little short of his first win of the season, Andy Gregg still put together a strong weekend that saw him finish fourth on Friday in Chico, CA with BrownEagle Motorsports and second on Saturday his GUTS Racing machine.

“It was a really good weekend,” Andy Gregg said. “I am bummed I didn’t get my family out on the front stretch for victory lane photos, but I am really proud of how both teams performed all weekend long.”

Making his first start of the season for Brian Brown on Friday night in Chico, CA, Gregg would time the No. 01 entry in 7thquickest in qualifying time trials as it was not only their first race together, but the Brown’s first race of the season.

Able to pick up the win in heat race action, it would prove to be pivotal as Silver Dollar Speedway’s format lined the Diamond Springs, CA driver up on the pole for the feature event.

Racing in honor of the late Tyler Wolf on Friday night during the Tyler Wolf Memorial, Gregg jumped out to the early lead as he looked strong on the heavy ¼ mile.

Setting the pace and hitting his marks lap after lap, Gregg could get through traffic very well as he kept the likes of Kyle Hirst and Sean Becker at bay. With less than five laps to go, Gregg’s machine would start to sputter as fuel became an issue and it would open the door for Becker and Hirst to get by.

Doing what he could in the final two laps to hang on, Gregg would lose one more position as he still finished fourth during his first appearance at Silver Dollar Speedway of the year.

Climbing back aboard his self-owned GUTS Racing mount on Saturday night, Gregg continue to flex his muscle as he qualified second fastest in time trials.

Finishing fifth in his heat race, the redraw put the local product on the front row of the feature event alongside Andy Forsberg. A couple of negated starts due to issues, would finally see Gregg power out to the lead when the action went green.

Just like Friday night, Gregg looked very strong out front as he kept he field at bay in only his eighth start of the season. Working the cushion to perfection, a late restart would set up for a very dramatic finish.

Leading the way over Kalib Henry and Kyle Hirst with just six laps left, Gregg continued to pound the cushion as he sought after his first win of the season.

Taking the white flag as the race leader with Henry all over him, Henry would slide up in front of him in turns three and four and snatch victory from him as he would finish second on this night.

“It stings a little to lose it like that, but Kalib did a great job and I congratulate him on the win,” Gregg said. “I have to than my guys for working hard for myself and on the 01 on Friday, and have to thank Brian Brown for doing some racing with myself as well. Huge thanks to all of my marketing partners because I simply couldn’t race if it wasn’t for all of them.”

Andy would like to thank GUTS, Capitol ACE Hardware, Crane Inspection Agency, Sierra Ice, CTL Forest Management, Nail It Roofing, ARP Enterprises, Ervin Sales, Triple X, Wilwood, FK Shocks, FK Rod Ends, K&N,  King Racing Products, BR Motorsports, Amerikote, Pony Express Service, Eagle Grit, and MF Inc. for their support in 2019.

ON TAP: Andy Gregg will be back in action during the opening leg of KWS Speedweek on Wednesday in Placerville, CA and then will return to the seat of the No. 01 entry on Friday in Chico, CA.
